RALEIGH, N.C. A lot of pressure was placed on University of South Carolina redshirt freshman defensive end Devin Taylor when he was forced into the starting lineup by the suspension of junior Clifton Geathers.
Despite playing in his first collegiate game, the Beaufort native delivered in a big way.
He finished the game with six tackles, three going for losses. He also had a sack, blocked a punt and a forced a fumble that led to the only touchdown of the game.
"I just do what my coach tells me, play hard, do your assignments and run fast," said Taylor, who earned a game ball. "On defense everyone knew some players in certain positions were going to have to step up. Everyone got together before the game and talked about how the defense would have to play hard and support the team. We did that tonight."
The Gamecocks held North Carolina State to 133 yards of total offense.
